MARION, Kentucky (AP) -- Someone shut off the ventilation systems in three western Kentucky chicken houses this week, causing more than 55,000 birds to suffocate, state police said Friday.
Police said the ventilators were turned off Wednesday night; the chickens were discovered the following morning. Police had no suspects.
Live chickens stay at the houses, owned by Tyson foods, about seven weeks before they are transported to another processing plant.
"This was a senseless act of vandalism carried out by a person who obviously was fully aware of its potential consequences," Tyson said in a statement Friday
